Today the St. Joseph News-Press reported that the owner of a nearby riverboat casino plans a lawsuit to clear up disputes over the land a proposed riverfront hike-bike trail would be built on. Casino owner Bill Grace claims that he controls, either through options or leases, land the trail would be constructed on.
Grace called the trail an “absolute waste of money” that would attract “joggers and winos up there, and that is all you are going to get.” People who use the trail will not be “buying anything. They are walking.”
Construction on the trail has been postponed until the legal problems are cleared up.

It is at least refreshing to see a free market radical point of view without the artificial veneer of compassionate rhetoric so common among the economic elite these days.
So Perhaps Mr. Grace should consider furthering the historical aspects of the riverboat gambling experience with another traditional capital generating use of the waterfront, a large bordello.
This would also elevate his attitude toward the needs of the St. Joseph community from the metaphoric, to the actual.
I have nothing against casinos, personally. But they should realize that they, like a large, tax abated bawdy house in the downtown area, might need to be a little concerned about how the community feels about their presence.
