According to Dale Crawford, Johnson County Bicycle Club advocacy chair, the man who has been bicycling's strongest advocate on the Shawnee, KS, city council is now running for mayor of Shawnee.
Shawnee has become the most bicycle-friendly community in the Kansas City metro area and is the only community to receive the League of American Bicyclists "Bicycle Friendly Community" award.
More info from Dale:
John Segale is currently bicycling's strongest political ally in Shawnee, KS, which received a L.A.B. Bicycle Friendly Community Award last year. John has advocated for, fought for and defended Shawnee's progressive Bicycle Transportation Plan many times. As recognized by LAB, Shawnee is a model community, which all KC Metro communities should be studying and emulating where practical. While John will never claim to have done it alone, Shawnee's plan would not have its success without his constant vigilance in the Council chambers.
John is attempting to move up the political ladder from Council member to Mayor of Shawnee. As such he will be able to further the needs of bicyclists and pedestrians of all ages with even greater influence. Currently involved in MARC committees, as mayor John will be able to play an even greater role at the metro level, as well.

The other candidate for mayor of Shawnee is
Jeff Meyers.
