Riverside levee to sport new trail
Submitted by Brent Hugh on Wed, 02/04/2004 - 4:28am
According to a Kansas City Star story:
In an agreement signed last week, the Riverside-Quindaro Bend Levee District is joining with Platte County and the city of Riverside to build a trail on top of the new levee. . . .The cooperation of the Riverside-Quindaro Bend Levee District and other local governments and planning organizations is heartening and should be an example for all other flood control districts in the region. Certain other Kansas City area levee administrators have not been as cooperative.
The levee portion is part of an 11-mile Missouri Riverfront trail master plan, said Brian Nowotny, Platte County's parks and recreation director.
The riverfront trail, a partnership with Riverside and Parkville, will stretch between the Clay County line and Interstate 435, linking with Parkville's English Landing Park trail along the river.
?This is one of the most important pieces of our trail plan,? Nowotny said. ?People are still going to be able to get close to the river this way. It's not common to have trails on top of levees, but it fits here and we think it will work for us.?
