St. Louis Suburban Journal article encourages people to ride like Lance
posted by Brent Hugh at 8/28/2004 01:36:00 PM
An article by Kevin Carbery of the St. Louis Suburban Journals says:
Not many have leg power comparable to Lance Armstrong, but anyone can benefit by taking up bicycle riding for exercise. . .

[Physical therapist Cara] Dake said she hopes the focus Armstrong has brought to the sport by winning his sixth consecutive Tour de France bicycle race July 25 will inspire others to start pumping pedals.

"By going on bicycle rides, you're actually practicing preventive medicine," Dake said. "That's because bicycling is an aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise is linked to decreases in strokes, coronary artery disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, osteoporosis, depression and anxiety."

Bike riding is not as hard on the body as is jogging, Dake said.
