Missouri Amendment 3 to divert more state funds to highways--opposition formed

According to a Kansas City Star article, an opposition group has formed to fight Missouri Consitutional Amendment 3, which will divert as much as $170 million per year of sales taxes that currently go into the general fund, and funnel them directly to MoDOT for road and highway construction:
A proposed Missouri constitutional amendment on highway funding would divert much-needed money from education and social services, a new group opposed to the measure said Friday.

Opponents calling themselves "No on Amendment 3" are seeking to reverse the argument of amendment supporters, who claim the Nov. 2 ballot measure would end the diversion of highway user fees to other government purposes.

"There is no diversion going on except for their effort to acquire hundreds of millions of state general revenue fund dollars," said Pat Martin, spokeswoman for the opposition group. "The most appropriate name for this proposal is ‘the Highway Robbery Amendment.' "
More details about the opponents' views can be found on the Missourians for Tax Justice page.
