Amtrak funding threatened by MO legislative committee

Citizens for Modern Transit released this announcement today

The Missouri House Appropriations Committee for Transportation and Economic Development approved an amendment to eliminate $6.4 million in funding for the twice-daily Amtrak service between Kansas City and St. Louis. Governor Blunt had recommended full funding for the passenger rail service in his budget. CMT Board member Mike Swoboda, mayor of Kirkwood, and Thomas R. Shrout, Jr., executive director, testified before the committee last Monday about the importance of the passenger rail service to the 10 communities it serves. CMT members and friends may wish to write their legislators about Amtrak.

Amtrak routes across Missouri allow bicycles to be rolled aboard.
