The Bicycle Safety Bill,
SB 372, sponsored by
Farmington Senator Kevin Engler, was given a "do pass" recommendation by a unanimous vote of the Senate Economic Development Committee on March 14th. Now it is on the Senate Consent Calendar. It will most likely come up for a vote in the full Senate the week of March 28th.
The companion bill in the Missouri House is
HB632 sponsored by
Representative Mike Sutherland, and avid mountain biker. HB632 has been assigned to the House Transportation Committee and we are waiting for a hearing date to be set.
Another bill of importance for bicyclists has been introduced.
HB 518 will allow motorists to cross the center double-yellow line, when safe, in order to pass a slow moving vehicle such as a bicycle. There is a technical problem with this bill and our lobbyist, James Farrell, is working to ensure that this measure comes out in a bicycle friendly way.
