Missouri Bicyclists,

The hearing about the Bicycle Safety Bill in the Missouri House Transportation Committee went very well today.

The committee has now voted and gave the bill a "do pass" recommendation.

Jim Farrell and I testified for the Missouri Bicycle Federation. Caryn Giarratano testified for MoDOT. Representatives from the American Heart Association and a representative of a Missouri Parks and Recreation Association testified in favor.

The House Sponsor, representative Mike Sutherland (an avid mountain biker) did a good job in explaining the details of the bill and answering questions. A lot of questions and issues came up--not antagonistic, but just honest questions and issues.

We made some connections with lawmakers in parts of the state that have cross-country bicycle routes, like the TransAmerica Trail. Like us, they are interested in improving these routes so that they will be safer and help Missouri realize its full bicycle tourism potential.

No one testified against the bill.
