Bicycle Safety Legislation moving forward in Missouri House
Submitted by Brent Hugh on Mon, 04/11/2005 - 6:12am
The bicycle safety legislation supported by the Missouri Bicycle Federation and other advocacy organizations across the state is moving forward.
HB 632, sponsored by mountain biking Representative Mike Sutherland, came up for a hearing in the House Transportation Committee last Wednesday. Sutherland, MoBikeFed lobbyist Jim Farrell, MoDOT Bike/Ped Coordinator Caryn Giarratano, representatives of the American Heart Association, the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association, and MoBikeFed President Brent Hugh all testified in favor of the bill.
No one testified against the bill.
HB 632 was given a "do pass" recommendation.
SB 372, sponsored by Senator Kevin Engler of Farmington, has already passed the Missouri Senate. Since it has passed the Senate it, too, comes up for a hearing in the House Transportation Committee this coming Wednesday.
Since the language is nearly identical to HB 632, recently passed by the Transportation Committee, we do not expect any major difficulties in moving SB 372 forward. However, MoBikeFed will be there monitoring the situation.
Thanks to all the MoBikeFed members, member organizations, and supporters, who have made MoBikeFed's lobbying effort possible--and especially to all those who have taken the time to write their legislators in support of the Bicycle Safety Bill.
Your support really does make a difference!
