At the national Active Living by Design meeting in Chapel Hill, NC last month, the award for Promotion of Active Living was presented to "Bike, Walk, and Wheel: A Way of Life in Columbia." This project, led by PedNet in partnership with the Columbia/Boone County Health Dept and other partners, is approaching the end of its second year. A Walking School Bus program has been initiated, the Passport to Fitness Youth Challenge has attracted 1,700 participants, new bike/ped friendly street design standards have been passed, and a social marketing campaign is underway.
