A recent study by TRIP, a Washington-based transportation research group, placed Kansas City number 1 and St. Louis number 3 among the large metropolitan areas with the worst roads in the nation.
Kansas City has 71 percent of its roads in substandard condition. In St. Louis it is 66 percent.
Substandard roads take a disproportionate toll on bicyclists. The Missouri Bicycle Federation has supported, in a responsible way, spending the money needed to bring roads up to standards, and bringing Missouri to equity in the federal highway funding system (Missouri is currently a donor state in the federal system).
See details of this study in a
KCTV5 report and on the
TRIP web site.
