Midwest Mountain Bike Festival Apr 7-9 in St. Charles
posted by Brent Hugh at 3/25/2006 08:26:00 AM
Join mountain bicycle enthusiasts and advocates from all over the Midwest the weekend of April 7-9 for the Midwest Mountain Bike Festival. Gateway Off Road Cyclists (GORC), will host the event at Klondike Park in August, Missouri, just west of St. Louis. Sponsored by Kona Bicycles and New Belgium Brewery, the three-day event features seminars, contests, organized rides, give-aways, local bands, food and beverages. Come for all three days, or just a part of it. To find out more or to register, go online to: www.gorctrails.com.

Friday, April 7. The Kona Bicycles Advocacy Summit.
The day begins with registration at 9:00 a.m. and is all about trails and advocacy. We’ll have informative seminars for trail stewards, club leaders, trail crew leaders, and trail designers. We’ll also have the International Mountain Bicycling Association for a special presentation of IMBA and all of their national and international programs.

Saturday, April 8. The Festival.
All day long we’ll have a festival atmosphere, with food, demos from several major bike companies, and organized rides on all of the trails, a huge raffle, and music provided by local bands including Maid Rite and Red Ass Jones. Saturday night will also feature night rides on local trails.

Sunday, April 9. Epic Ride.
Sunday’s big event is the organized epic ride. We’ll cover three different trail systems, every kind of surface you can ride a bike on, and over 40 miles of riding. We’ll have aid stations along the way to fuel-up, as well as some optional stops at local watering holes for refreshments. The more the merrier. Shorter ride options can be done as well. There will be turn-offs. The Summit should conclude by 3:00 p.m.

At GORC, the intention is to keep mountain biking fun, interesting, and exciting for all levels of riders. From first-timer to expert racer, all riders benefit when more trails are built or opened to cyclists.

GORC is a non-profit, incorporated group of dedicated mountain bike enthusiasts formed with the goal of advancing the cause of trail access and environmental preservation.
