Columbia working for more bicycle parking downtown

According to a Columbia Missourian article:
“My employees have complained for years about the lack of bike racks,” owner Leigh Lockhart said. “This isn’t a good system.”

Lockhart is pushing for more bike racks downtown as a way to promote cycling and reduce the need to drive in the area. The PedNet Coalition also supports the installation of more bike racks . . . .

Lockhart said that most of Main Squeeze’s customers and employees bike or walk to the restaurant and that the number and type of bike racks lining Ninth Street are inadequate. U-shaped bars attached to the street’s meters allow for bikes to be chained on the sidewalk parallel to the street.
Columbia already has far more bicycle parking downtown than do most Missouri cities.
