The new
Christopher S. Bond Bridge over the Missouri River at Hermann will include a bicycle/pedestrian path to connect Hermann with the Katy Trail.
At 55 feet 4 inches wide, the new bridge includes two 12 ft. driving lanes, two 10 ft. shoulders, one 8 ft. bike/pedestrian lane and a concrete-safety barrier separating the bike/pedestrian lane from traffic. There will also be three 26 ft. long, 3 ft. wide pedestrian overlooks off of the bike/pedestrian lane. The old bridge has a 20 ft. deck width. See plans for the bike path. Live webcam photos of the construction. Senator Kit Bond was instrumental in arranging funding for the bridge.
A quick email to Senator Bond would help build his support for future bike/ped project. Sen. Bond is ambivalent about, perhaps opposed to--bicycle/pedestrian accommodations on a similar bridge project in Kansas City, the
Paseo Bridge --where he has also arranged the federal funding.
