According to
news sources, President Bush will propose a drastic cutback in American's gasoline usage--a 20% cut within the next ten years.
The main points of Bush's plan seem to be increasing the amount of gasoline alternatives used, particularly ethanol, and improving the CAFE standards to require better fuel mileage from motor vehicles.
Unfortunately, preliminary reports make no mention of an effort to promote conservation through the encouragement of alternatives like walking, bicycling, transit, carpooling, or telecommuting.
