The Examiner endorses Complete Katy Trail
Submitted by Brent Hugh on Sun, 02/11/2007 - 10:56pm
The Blue Springs Examiner published an editorial Saturday in favor of extending the Katy Trail to the Kansas City area:
Missouri officials have announced a short extension of the Katy Trail, a 22-mile hiking and biking trail that runs almost ? almost ? across the state.
It currently runs from Clinton, Mo., to St. Charles, Mo., and now an 11-mile addition, north to Machen, Mo., will put bicyclists close to the Illinois border. Thumbs up for that good news.
What about this end of the state? Officials have talked for some time about extending the trail on unused railroad tracks from Windsor, Mo., to Pleasant Hill. That would put the trail within easier reach for Kansas City area bicyclists and hikers.
Gov. Matt Blunt has championed that idea and says people come from all over the world to ride the trail. Imagine, he says, if it connected the state's two major metropolitan areas. Let's hope the governor and others keep pedaling away on this issue.
