Bicycle-friendly politician wins St. Louis Aldermanic President race

According to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch story:
Commercials, experience and a deep base of voters weren't enough Tuesday to prevent Aldermanic President Jim Shrewsbury from being upset by Alderman Lewis Reed, his only opponent in Tuesday's Democratic primary. . . .

Reed, a Compton Heights resident, was elected 6th Ward alderman in 1999. While in office, he steered millions of dollars of development into the ward, anchored by the burgeoning Lafayette Square neighborhood. He also helped start Bike St. Louis, a set of connected bicycle trails in the city.
