21 JUL 2007: Make STL's Hanley Road safer for walking and bicycling
posted by Brent Hugh at 7/12/2007 05:18:00 PM
Ann Mack of TrailNet recently sent the following advocacy alert for those in the St. Louis region:

The St. Louis County Department of Highways & Traffic, in association with the cities of Brentwood, Maplewood, and Richmond Heights, have undertaken a study to develop a plan for the Hanley Road Corridor in central St. Louis County.

St. Louis County is now proceeding into the design phase of phase 1 of the project, which is the south portion between Hanley Industrial and Laclede Station Road. These plans call for an elevated interchange over Manchester road and widening from four to seven travel lanes from Hanley Industrial Court to approximately Laclede Station Road.

Note that no bicycle/pedestrian accommodations are currently planned.

Learn more on the St. Louis County website (www.hanleyroad.com).

Trailnet is advocating for the highest quality bicycle/pedestrian facilities along this corridor, especially to allow for safe and easy access to MetroLink stations at Manchester Rd. and Sunnen Dr.

We ask that you help us ensure bikeable/walkable communities by contacting:

Barbara Fraser - St. Louis County Council, District 5
* Phone: (314) 615-5441 and Fax: (314) 615-7890
* Mail: 41 South Central Avenue, Clayton, MO 63105
* E-mail (bfraser@stlouisco.com)

Russell Carnahan - U.S. House of Representatives, 3rd District Missouri
* Phone: (314) 962-1523 and Fax: (314) 962-7169
* Mail: 8764 Manchester Road, Suite 203, St. Louis, MO 63144
* E-mail (carnahan.house.gov/contact.shtml)

Please urge these elected officials to work for an equitable transportation system - one that includes biking and walking accommodations!

Please contact these representatives by Friday, July 20 and thanks for your support.
