Missourian Larry Frevert named as President of American Public Works Association
posted by Brent Hugh at 10/09/2007 12:03:00 PM
Missourian Larry Frevert has been named president of the American Public Works Association.

Larry Frevert is a good friend of bicycling--one of the main forces behind the "BikeKC" plan and recipient of the Missouri Bicycle Federation's Lifetime Achievement Award. So it's great news to have him in an influential position with the American Public Works Association.

Larry just wrote me that he recently returned from speaking conference of the Slovak Republic and Czech Republic Public Works Associations. The final day was a "free day" and they took him on a 42 kilometer bike ride through the wine country of Moravia.

Now that is how all public works department meetings should end--with a good bike ride!

HDR’s Frevert Named President of American Public Works Association

Larry Frevert, P.E., HDR’s national program director of public works, was named president of the American Public Works Association during the 2007 International Public Works Congress and Exposition held in San Antonio, Texas. Frevert will serve as APWA president in 2007-2008.

In a first for APWA, Frevert succeeded a colleague in this role. William A. Verkest, P.E, is a municipal program manager out of HDR’s Fort Worth, Texas office and served as APWA president in 2006-2007.

Frevert is based in HDR’s Kansas City, Mo., office. He has spent much of his career in city and state government and continues working with local governments in his current position. Before joining HDR, Frevert served 19 years in various positions with the city of Kansas City, Mo., including assistant director for engineering in the Parks and Recreation Department and deputy and acting public works director for the Public Works Department. He also served 17 years with the Missouri Department of Transportation.

A member of APWA for more than 20 years, Frevert is past president of the Kansas City metro chapter. He has held various positions on the local and national levels, including serving on the APWA board of directors as national treasurer and director-at-large for facilities and fleet services.
