MoBikeFed needs you! Nine National Bike Summit delegates sought
At 2007 National Bike Summit we had the best representation from Missouri ever, with five delegates.
However, there are NINE congressional districts in Missouri, and for the 2008 National Bike Summit we would really like to have representatives from ALL NINE districts accompany us to Washington, DC.
Even with five delegates last year, all of us were from the Kansas City or St. Louis areas. So we had a full SEVEN congressional districts that were not covered.
The National Bike Summit is an absolute blast and also some of the best, most effective bicycle advocacy that can be done.
Of course Congress moves national policy and national legislation forward. At the stroke of a pen, Congress can do more than we might accomplish in 20 years of frustrating local bicycle advocacy.
And congressmembers are often extraordinarily helpful in solving local bicycle advocacy issues.
So representing Missouri at the National Bike Summit is one of the most effective things you can do to move national AND local bicycle advocacy forward.
Here are some more details about attending the Summit:
If you are interested in joining us in Washington, DC, as a Missouri delegate to the National Bike Summit, please email director [at] mobikefed.org- You will be responsible for your own travel, housing, and registration fee
- Your local bicycling, walking, running, or trails organization may choose to help defray some of your expenses (we encourage local clubs and organizations to consider sending a representative to the Summit!)
- We are working on housing arrangements that may help keep costs down
- BikeLeague may have registration fee waivers or homestay housing arrangements available--ask EARLY for best results!
- The advocacy part is easy and fun--the BikeLeague gives you extensive training and background, so that when you go to speak to the congress member or staff, you will know your
stuff--and we always go in groups, so you'll have plenty of backup
