Submitted by Brent Hugh on Mon, 04/28/2008 - 8:20pm
Celebrate the kick-off of National Bike Month and join the Bicycle Friendly St. Louis partnership on Friday, May 2nd for Bicycle Appreciation Day at St. Louis City Hall.
Awards will be presented to the Aldermen of the City of St. Louis who supported the Bike St. Louis project, 77 miles of on-road bike routes in the City of St. Louis and now connecting to St. Louis county. The city will also be issuing a proclamation naming May as National Bike Month in the City of St. Louis.
This is a great opportunity to personally show your support for bicycling in St. Louis and thank those that are dedicated to making the city a more bicycle friendly community.
Agenda
The Bicycle Friendly St. Louis partnership is a collaboration of bicycling groups in the St. Louis region working together with the goal of helping the City of St. Louis earn the prestigious 'Bicycle Friendly Community' designation by the League of American Bicyclists. The partnership consists of representatives of the following organizations and agencies:
Bike St. Louis, East-West Gateway Council of Governments, Gateway Council - Hostelling International, Great Rivers Greenway District, Metropolis, Missouri Bicycle Federation, Missouri Bicycle Racing Association, City of St. Louis, St. Louis Regional Bicycle Federation, and Trailnet.
Getting cities across Missouri involved in the national Bicycle Friendly Communities program is one of the primary goals of MoBikeFed's Vision of Active Transportation in Missouri. St. Louis is one of the cities leading the way, with their recent application for Bicycle Friendly Community status.
One of the best ways to get your community started working on Bicycle Friendly Community designation is to have a few key people attend the Bicycle Friendly Communities Workshop in the Kansas City area May 21-22, 2008.
