Springfield's Bike Bus and Walk Week, May 12-16, encouraged Springfield residents to enjoy the spring weather by walking, bicycling, and using the bus for commuting and errands. According to the News-Leader:
Not that riding a bike on city streets is easy, especially compared to a city like Portland, Ore., where he lived before moving to Springfield recently, Webb said.
But efforts like Bike Bus Walk Week are held to change that, Lori Tack of Ozark Greenways said before the group held a "Rally in Patton Alley" to drum up interest during ArtWalk. . . .
More businesses are aware of Bike Bus Walk Week, as well as an official challenge to get as many employees to participate, Tack said.
So far, nearly 50 businesses, schools and organizations have registered for the challenge, she said. Those participants are listed on the Bike Bus Walk Web site at ozarkgreenways.org/bike-to-work
It’s official: If it’s green, it’s cool. And one of the easiest ways to save energy is to ride a bike instead of driving a car. It’s doable, though not the easiest thing, especially when your commute takes you off the Ozark Greenways system and into Springfield’s car-congested maw.
