President-elect Obama has proposed a huge economic stimulus plan, with a large "green" component, for early in 2009.
U.S. Mayors have been busy drawing up a list of potential infrastructure projects. The complete list (a very large PDF) can be found here.
Here is MoBikeFed's preliminary analysis of proposed projects from Missouri that include a bicycle, pedestrian, or transit component:
TRAILS: 0.8%, $27 million, 686 jobs SIDEWALK OR PEDESTRIAN: 0.5%, $16 million, 330 jobs TRANSIT: 32%, $1.1 billion 25,363 jobs STREETSCAPE: 5.6%, $190 million, 6323 jobs (Streetscape improvements should generally--though perhaps not always--improve the environment for pedestrians.) ROAD PROJECTS THAT INCLUDE BIKE/PED: 1.4%, $49 million, 590 jobs, road project that includes bike/ped, sidewalk, trail, bike lane, shoulder, etc. (This is definitely an incomplete listing as it is based on our own informal knowledge of which projects will include bike/ped in the form of sidewalks, bicycle lanes, shoulders, trails, etc.--because the project listings do not provide this level of detail.)
The percentages are of the total projects from Missouri submitted in this list from all categories, including water, housing, schools, public safety, etc.--$3.4 billion in all.
