Susie Stephens, a bicycle advocate who made a national impact, was killed by a bus in 2002 while crossing a crosswalk in St. Louis, where she was attending a conference.
The bus driver, who had failed to yield to Stephens as she was crossing the crosswalk,
later pleaded guilty and was fined $500.These two trees were planted at 1612 K Street NW in Washington, DC, just in front of the building that holds the national headquarters of the League of American Bicyclists, Alliance for Biking and Walking, and America Bikes.
The memorial trees were planted during Day 4 of the 2009
National Bike Summit, immediately after the Congressional Bike Ride.
