The 2009 Tour of Missouri brought out
500,000 spectators and had an economic impact to the state of about $38 million.
It's had a
huge positive effect on the status of bicycling in Missouri as well.
Word on the street is that the decision to continue the Tour of Missouri for 2010 will have to be made by December 2009 at latest.
Governor Nixon is, as always, the key decision maker on this issue.
A call or email to Governor Nixon's office in support of the 2010 Tour will carry a lot of weight.
MoBikeFed representatives recently had a very productive meeting with Governor Nixon's staff to encourage Governor Nixon to adopt a pro-bicycle policy, appoint Missouri Highways and Transportation Commissioners who support bicycle, pedestrian, and transit issues, and move forward with some simple, long-delayed, "no-brainer" bicycle projects. So please ask Governor Nixon to support bicycling in general as well as the Tour of Missouri.

Call: 573-751-3222
Ask: Governor Nixon, will you support the 2010 Tour of Missouri **and** will you support bicycle friendly policies for the stage, including Complete Streets and funding for bicycling & pedestrian facilities in any future MoDOT funding?
