Governor Nixon: Decision to ax Tour of Missouri "was a good one"

According to a KMOX.com news story:

Nixon says the state tourism commission's decision to pull funding for the [Tour of Missouri] and spend it elsewhere, was a good one.

At a bill-signing today (Friday) in North St. Louis County, Nixon said he stands behind the tourism commission's decision not to spend budget money on the bike race, but to invest it in localized tourism draws, with a potential for better return on the investment.

Nixon says, "We have some great assets, to state parks, our outdoor sights, all corners of the state;  we think moving our dollars there for continued tourism not only for this year but for years to come is now standing investment and with a great return for Missouri."

Was the decision to talk to no one in Missouri's bicycling community before deciding to drop the Tour also a good one?
