Warrensburg policy seek driver who appeared to intentionally strike bicyclist

The Warrensburg Daily Star-Journal is reporting that an SUV driver struck a bicyclist Friday, an incident that, according to eyewitness reports, appeared to be intentional:

Michael Martin, 53, suffered serious injuries when a man driving an SUV appeared to purposefully bump Martin, who rode a LeMond bicycle east on Business 50 between Sears and Steve Stockton Insurance.

"I saw him get clipped. He was on the outside of the lane turning with the vehicle," witness Thomas Orr, 31, Knob Noster, said at the scene about 11:15 Friday.

Orr said whoever drove the blue Jeep that hit Martin kept going.

"It's not here. They're still looking for it," Orr said.

Marissa Johnmeyer, 18, Warrensburg, said she drove next in line behind the Jeep.

"The blue Jeep just swerved over, hit him, and moved back, and then they drove off," Johnmeyer said, and later added, "(The Jeep) was going straight on the road and he just moved over real quick - he just purposefully hit him."

Warrensburg police appear to be treating the incident seriously and, according to the Star-Journal article, have a good lead in the case.
