Blue Springs asking for citizen input on next phase of trails & bikeway system

Blue Springs already has one of the best trails and bikeway systems of any Kansas City area suburb. But now, according to an article in the Blue Springs Examiner, the city is aiming even higher--and asking for citizen input about the next steps:

The first hearing will be at 6 p.m. today at Brittany Hill Middle School, 2701 N.W. First St; the second will be on Aug. 25 at the Blue Springs Freshman Center, 2103 N.W. Vesper St.; the third and final will be on Sept. 8 at Cordill-Mason Elementary, 4001, S.W. Christiansen Road.

[Blue Springs Parks Director Roscoe] Righter said each meeting will be about an hour and half, and he swears he won’t talk long.

Those in attendance will have the opportunity to say what’s on their minds: about what they think works and what doesn’t when it comes to existing trails and routes; about the types of trails they’d like to see in the future; about how and when they use the system, etc. Participants also will be able to “draw” on a map ideas they would like to see happen. If someone can’t attend, they’re more than welcome to call the city and ask where they can go to fill out comments and/or complete a survey. . . .

If you think that Blue Springs, with its networks of trails and bike routes and award-winning parks, doesn’t lay close to Righter’s heart, you’d be a fool to think so. Here’s a guy who’s developed a kind of bucket list for his last few months on the job, and judging by the sound of his voice, he will be quite upset if he doesn’t complete all that he’s set out to do.

Phase one of this ambitious trail and bike route system is done. With a few new trails snaking their way through the city, and bike routes laid out with the proper street markings, Righter said it’s time to start thinking about the next phase . . .
