Bike Week kicks off across Missouri
Bike Week kicked off today across Missouri--and remember, this is the FIRST year our state's bike month, bike week, and bike-to-work day activities have officially been part of the Missouri state holidays calendar, thanks to SB 180 and the work of bill sponsor Senator Will Kraus and many other supporters in the General Assembly during the 2011 legislative session.
Here are just a few of the many activities that have taken place across Missouri already:
- Trailnet kicked off the week with a Mother's Day ride that is growing annually in participation, and has a whole calendar of Bike Month events planned, including 11 refueling stations for Bike to Work Day Friday.
- Great Bike Week news coverage in Springfield, where Ozark Greenways is sponsoring Bike to Work Week activities.
- Kansas City's event kicked off at city hall, where participants learned about the city's new bike racks, 40 miles of new bike lanes, and 17 miles of new trails in the past few years. BikeWalkKC is organizing many Bike Week events.
- The Ride of Silence is planned for Wednesday, 7pm, in several locations across Missouri, including St. Louis, Joplin, St. Joseph, and Kansas City.
- Lee's Summit produced this cool video to promote the city's Bike Month activities:
Don't forget MoBikeFed's upcoming Bike Month events--the Clips of Faith Beer and Film Tours in St. Louis and Kansas City. These events are great fun for everyone and are two of our most important fundraisers of the year, which help support or advocacy and legislative work in support of bicycling and walking:
