Aug 15 & 17: Action 2020 Workshops coming to Missouri - we need citizens and advocates to attend

A pair of exciting, motivational, informative workshop are coming to Missouri in August.

The Action 2020 Workshops are designed to bring together elected officials, staff, and bicycle/pedestrian advocates from across the state to give you specific ideas and techniques you can use to supercharge your local bicycle and pedestrian efforts.

Right now we have lots of staff and elected officials signed up--but so far not too many ordinary citizens or advocates.

So we need you!

Both sessions are identical--just two dates and locations for the same workshop. Attend whichever is more convenient for you.

You would ordinarily pay somewhere in the hundreds of dollars for a workshop of this quality, but thanks to financial support from SRAM we are able to bring this to you for free!

All the details about the Action 2020 Workshops

The Missouri Bicycle & Pedestrian Federation, the Missouri Association of Councils of Government, and the Pioneer Trails Regional Planning Commission are pleased to announce two upcoming FREE workshops in Missouri.

The workshops bring nationally recognized presenters to Missouri and are presented by Advocacy Advance - a partnership between the League of American Bicyclists and Alliance for Biking & Walking.

The workshops focus on finding funding for the biking and walking projects we all want to get done--and, particularly, on opening up new sources of bike/ped funding that have not (yet!) been fully tapped in Missouri.

The sessions also focus on fostering relationships between the advocates, staff, and elected officials--one reason it is very important for us as citizens and advocates to attend!

Notes:

  - We are offering a special "train the trainer" version of the workshop that will give you the materials and extra training to take this training session back to your local area.  There will be an extra 'train the trainer' session, about 90 minutes, at the end of the day.

  - If you want to take the training with the extra 'train the trainer' session, simply leave a note indicating "train the trainer" in the special requests section of the registration form.

 Action 2020 workshops bring together advocates, agency staff and elected officials and are designed to ensure participants have the knowledge, skills and resources to access funding sources at the state, regional and local level to build bicycling and walking infrastructure and programs.

We invite you to register for this one-day workshop, locally hosted by Missouri Bicycle & Pedestrian Federation, the Missouri Association of Councils of Government (MACOG), and the Pioneer Trails Regional Planning Commission.

Action 2020 Workshop attendees will:

  • Learn about potential funding sources that exist for biking and walking projects and programs;
  • Learn the key characteristics, requirements, and opportunities of those sources and best practices from around the country;
  • Discuss favorable factors for bicycling and walking investments;
  • Understand the important role of advocates, agency staff, and elected officials working within Missouri's Statewide Transportation Planning Framework; and,
  • Share knowledge and experiences in the local context, working together to develop a list of local/regional priorities and strategies for funding bicycle and pedestrian projects and programs.

The workshop also serves as a great way to meet and socialize with other advocates, agency staff, elected officials, and bicycle/pedestrian professionals.  This provides a priceless opportunity to develop relationships and learn best practices.
