The Missouri Division of Tourism has (finally!) created a nice page about bicycle tourism opportunities in Missouri
The Division of Tourism's focus in Missouri bicycling and trails is inspired by the recent award to Missouri as Best Trails State. The awards also inspired Governor Nixon's 100 Missouri Miles Challenge.
Grab your beloved mountain or road bike and head to the Show-Me State. Bicycling enthusiasts from all over the United States flock to Missouri to ride the Katy Trail.
Katy Trail State Park, the longest rails-to-trails conversion in the nation, stretches 237+ miles across beautiful Missouri countryside. Stops include quaint bed-and-breakfasts, campgrounds, antique shops, restaurants and wineries. In addition to cycling, the Katy Trail is open to runners, hikers and those who just want to walk; a section near Sedalia is even open to horses. You'll find 33 trailheads spaced along its length, plus other access points.
Just to the west of Kirksville, paths for bicycle riders and walkers connect Big Creek Conservation Area to Thousand Hills State Park. This is a lovely, serene area of scenic views, woodlands and savannas.
Castlewood State Park, in Ballwin, gives bicyclists the choice of eight great trails with breathtaking views of the Meramec River; and there are plenty of chances for other fun activities, including hiking, horseback riding and picnicking.
Give your ride a metropolitan twist as you pedal along the St. Louis Riverfront Trail. Running 11 miles beside the majestic Mississippi River, this trail connects the Gateway Arch to the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. See original artwork along the route, and stop for a photo opportunity at one of the plazas.
The St. Joseph Urban Trail System beckons you to enjoy a memorable ride through the charming city of St. Joseph. This network of trails takes the rider past the Missouri River and breathtaking bluffs, as well as through picturesque historic neighborhoods.
