Rock Island Ramble June 22nd - Volunteers Needed!

The new Rock Island Ramble ride is coming up June 22nd--and it's one of MoBikeFed's major fundraisers this year.  The Ramble is a fully supported road ride with routes of 20, 35, 65, and 100 miles that highlights the Rock Island corridor--soon to be home of Rock Island Trail State Park and the trail connection between the Katy Trail and the Kansas City metro area.

A ride takes lots of volunteers--and we're inviting MoBikeFed supporters and community members to help support the Rock Island Ramble by volunteering for the event.

Volunteers Needed

We need many volunteers to help out for a few hours ride day or in the days leading up to the event.  These include jobs like:

  • Registration
  • SAG Stops
  • Roving SAG
  • Route Marking

Find out more and sign up for those important volunteer jobs here.

Volunteer Coordinators/Leads Needed

We are also looking for a few Volunteer Leads.  These are more involved volunteer jobs that involve overseeing and coordinating one area of the ride.  These are important jobs that will take some time and work (but not too much) and if you take on one of these jobs, you'll be making a very substantial contribution to the success of this event.

If you are interested in helping with one of these volunteer lead positions, please contact director@mobikefed.org or call Brent at 816-695-6736.

Volunteer Coordinator

The Volunteer Coordinator will work with the Executive Director of MoBikeFed to develop the volunteer schedule for the ride, volunteer position descriptions, and assignments of volunteer positions to volunteers who have signed up. The Volunteer Coordinator will communicate with volunteers to let them know their schedule and times needed.

The Volunteer Coordinator and ED will meet and coordinate mostly by phone and email. The Coordinator will need to be present at the event in Lee's Summit, Missouri, on June 22nd, 2013.

The Registration Lead for the Rock Island Ramble will be in charge of the registration table area and the registration volunteers for the Rock Island Ramble Bicycle Ride June 22nd in Lee's Summit, Missouri.

The registration area checks in riders who have pre-registered and accepts payment for riders who pay on ride day, then gives riders their ride information and collects their signed insurance sheets. When riders return we'll check them in, give them meal tickets, tshirt, and other post-ride info or gifts.

Check-in opens by 6pm ride day, the ride departs at 7:30, and riders will be returning all day, through about 4:30pm.

We will have other registration volunteers. Your job will be to work with the Executive Director to refine registration instrucdtions and materials for volunteers, then take the lead and oversee the volunteers and the entire registration process, make sure volunteers know how registration materials should be completed, and generally work to make the whole day and process work smoothly.

The ride features 20, 35, 66, and 100 mile routes and highlights the route of the planned and long-awaited Rock Island Trail connection between the Katy Trail and the Kansas City metro area.

SAG Stop Lead

The Rock Island Ramble Bicycle Ride has seven SAG Stops, where riders stop along the way to take a break, get drinks, and have a snack.

Your job will be to work with the Executive Director to develop and refine the list of items needed at each SAG Stop, purchase SAG Stop items and food prior to the ride, then distribute the items as well as SAG Stop materials (water jugs, tables, tents, etc) to various volunteers who will take the items and materials to the SAG Stops around the course. Then generally oversee and coordinate with the SAG Stop volunteers, answer questions and solve problems throughout the day of the ride.

Check-in opens by 6pm ride day, the ride departs at 7:30, and riders will be on different parts fo the course, and and different SAG Stops, all day through about 4:30pm.

Route Marking Lead

The Route Marking Coordinator will take charge in coordinating route marking volunteers and in working to mark the route for the Rock Island Ramble Bicycle Ride.

The Rock Island Ramble Bicycle Ride has on-road routes of 20, 35, 65, and 100 miles. During the week/few days before the ride, we will organize a few volunteers to travel the routes and mark them on the road with spray painted arrows and symbols. We also have signs we can place the day before or morning before the ride and then have SAG Drivers pick up after the ride.

The main work will take place a few days prior to the ride with some work and followup on ride day. Your main job will be to coordinate and organize route marking volunteers and teams as well as help mark the route.

If you are interested in helping with one of these volunteer lead positions, please contact director@mobikefed.org or call Brent at 816-695-6736.
