Cyclists: How to Be Good to Your Bones | Bicycling

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

the bulk of the literature . . . . shows that folks who spend the lion’s share of their recreational (or especially professional) time road cycling and doing nothing else are indeed at risk for lower bone density than folks who mix it up with other activities. Weak bones leave you vulnerable to worse breaks when you crash and could be downright crippling later in life. While it’s important to keep the literature in perspective (most of these studies are done on high-level competitive cyclists, not recreational riders) it’s also important to be sure you’re keeping your skeleton strong. Here’s what Smathers recommends:

Get scanned - Load your core year-round - Sprint! - Go off road
