Columbia City Council set to fill gap in trail system decades in the works - Columbia Daily Tribune | Columbia Missouri: Local News

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

“These two options provide for the greatest potential” for people to use alternative methods of travel like biking or walking, “which GetAbout funding must be used for,” Abby St. George of Circus Avenue wrote. “The connectivity that these two trails would provide is critical to the 30-mile loop that was envisioned in 2002.” . . .

The city’s Parks and Recreation Commission and Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission unanimously backed a combination of Options 1 and 3 in February. PedNet Coalition members also said they favor Option 1 or Option 3 because the proposed trails will “fill a gap” in the city’s extensive trail network.

Picking those two options would avoid the need to clear trees and have the trail cross over a large hill, which Option 2 would require, PedNet Executive Director Annette Triplett told the Parks and Recreation Commission in February. She said public concerns that Options 1 and 3 would disrupt the environment were unfounded, as the land in the area had already been cleared for utility work.
