College Avenue barrier construction starts Monday - Columbia Daily Tribune | Columbia Missouri: Local News

Construction is set to start Monday on a pedestrian barrier officials say will prevent people from illegally, and dangerously, crossing busy College Avenue between University Avenue and Rollins Street.

The project came about after a 2009 study of the area, conducted by the University of Missouri, over the course of two days that showed 5,000 of the 7,500 pedestrian crossings were outside of crosswalks.

MoBikeFed comment: One problem with projects like this is that crossing at 'official' crosswalks at intersections is often harder and more dangerous for pedestrians than the unofficial mid-block crossings that they replace.
