I had the chance to sit in on the Active Transportation Advisory Board last week when its members met to discuss the status of walk-bike trails in our community, as well as long-range plans.

Developing such trails makes sense, many board members said: We have more than 3,000 students attending schools spread out across the town. Safely walking or biking would mean active children and less traffic congestion.

We have a university full of students who rely on bikes for transportation, a population of low-income individuals who need safe routes by foot and bike, and residents who are increasingly seeking recreational opportunities.
