Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

One year ago, Secretary Foxx announced "Safer People, Safer Streets"initiative to ensure accessible walking and wheelchair-rolling environments for people nationwide. As a critical piece of this initiative, he announced the “Mayors’ Challenge for Safer People, Safer Streets,” which expanded awareness and brought together more than 200 Mayors to work on critical issues, such as committing to complete streets policies, addressing barriers to safe and convenient walking conditions, and collecting walking data.

DOT staff have worked with every state to conduct walking audits, an expansive effort to have transportation professionals experience firsthand the real challenges of walking across the very streets they design.

Other resources and leadership include a guide to road diets, and clarity around the flexibility of design standards, as well as, blog posts, articles and a vigorous social media presence that helps put pedestrian safety issues on the nation’s radar.
