Bicycling or walking across the 370 Bridge at St Charles - MoBikeFed

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

The Hwy 370 bridge is one of the few available crossing points of the Missouri River in the St. Charles area. The bridge itself has shoulders that are decently wide--wide enough for many to feel comfortable bicycling.

But the onramps to the bridge are very narrow with fast traffic--difficult for people who walk and bicycle to negotiate.

We heard about the difficulties negotiating the Hwy 370 bridge for years. The only other nearby alternative--the Page Ave. Extension Bridge, would add about 15 miles to the typical trip.

However, local agencies have worked to add trail connections to both sides of the Hwy 370 bridge that make the crossing much easier--if you know about them. The trail connections don't show up well on most maps.

This map show how to make the trail connections across the Hwy 370 in both directions.

Several regional agencies are working together to create even better cross-river trail connections in this area in the future: http://mobikefed.org/2015/05/i-70-bicyclepedestrian-bridge-study-city-st...
