Lee's Summit Road improvements to include Complete Streets elements in LS & Kansas City| Examiner

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Crews are widening [Lee's Summit Road] to three lanes from U.S. 40 south about a mile to Anderson Road, where Lee’s Summit Road crosses the Little Blue River. A hiking/biking lane is being added as well. It’s a $1.8 million project that started this summer. Earlier this year, the state made improvements at U.S. 40 and Lee’s Summit Road.

To the south, the city of Lee’s Summit is widening a section of Lee’s Summit Road as well. That work has fallen behind schedule, and the city now says the section of road between Gregory Boulevard and Colbern Road will remain closed until spring.

MoBikeFed comment: Local advocacy groups, cities, and agencies--including MoBikeFed--have been working for years to ensure that the updated Lee's Summit Road includes safe accommodations for walking and bicycling.

The road is the only north/south corridor in a large section of Jackson County, and for that reason is a key bicycle and pedestrian link.
