Goodbye parking garage, hello amphitheater, bike path, and garden at north end of Arch grounds | Entertainment | stltoday.com

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Come this fall, the 7.5-acre development at the north end of the Arch grounds will be home to a bike and foot path, amphitheater area, children’s play area and more.

The park space embraces its gateway roots, featuring a meandering pathway inspired by the Mississippi River and a garden filled with “plants Lewis and Clark would have seen on their journey west,” according to Ryan McClure, CityArchRiver director of communications. The organization gave media a tour of the site Wednesday. . . .

Construction on the park began in March 2015, with the demolition of the only parking garage on the Arch grounds.

MoBikeFed comment: The City/Arch/River Project is fundamentally changing the arch grounds and the St. Louis riverfront. Based on what we have seen so far the results are going to be very good.

Making the entire area walkable, bikeable, and connected with the downtown area for people who walk and bike (ie, everyone) is a major part of the vision of this project.

Kudos to many St. Louis region leaders for proposing this plan, St. Louis City & County voters for approving it, and Great Rivers Greenway District for implementing it quickly and well.
