MoRIT meets with local residents to discuss future of Rock Island Trail - Gasconade County Republican: Gerald - Rosebud

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Greg Harris, the executive director of MORIT, and Chryssa Niewald a board member of that group came to Gerald last Friday evening to address the community. Both are enthusiastic cyclists.

MORIT is a group formed to create a biking/hiking trail on the old Rock Island Railroad tracks. It is comprised of community, business and industry leaders from the towns along the future trail . . .

In order to maximize the potential for the trail’s success, Gerald must begin action now.

Niewald and Harris stressed that successful trail towns:

• Are inviting to visitors

• Have visible hospitality options

• Have wayfinding signs for visitors

• Train retailers to be helpful to visitors

• Actively share their local history . . .
In recognition of this, the local chamber has adopted, “Gerald - a Rock Island Town” as it’s motto. The chamber has already begun preparing for the trail.

MoBikeFed comment: It is great to see trail towns like Gerald embracing the Rock Island Trail.
