A hit-and-run crash in north Springfield that left a bicyclist with fatal injuries June 10 was witnessed by a woman who says she was nearly hit by the same driver shortly beforehand, according to newly available police documents.

The witness told police she began following a white SUV after the SUV nearly hit her car on Kearney Street, according to police documents.

The SUV struck the bicyclist, Jesse Beach, around the 600 block of East Kearney Street, the witness said, noting that the driver did not stop or slow down, police documents show. Beach, 28, suffered critical injuries from the crash and was transported to a local hospital where he died a few a days later, according to a press release from the city.
