There are multiple ongoing construction projects in Downtown St. Joseph that have closed roads, but at least one will be done by next week.

The construction of a new curb and sidewalk at the north entrance of City Hall started Oct. 11 and already is nearing completion.

Fritz Ambrozi, the sidewalk project manager with GDS LLC said the entry point is more accessible and it’s professional look compliments the beautiful architecture of the historic building.

“Everything is ADA compliant now,” he said. “Before none of the sidewalks matched the grades of slopes and they all do know. You got to realize that this is our City Hall. It’s a focal point of community pride and this should set the standard and be example for the rest of the community.”

MoBikeFed comment: Installing improved and ADA-compliant sidewalks is an everyday story--hardly even worth mentioning as a news event.

Yet sidewalks--and even more important, sidewalks accessible to people with disabilities--provide basic mobility that citizens need. We applaud and encourage every Missouri community that spends time, effort, and budget dollars to improve sidewalks and accessibility.
