El Dorado Springs moves forward with key sidewalk project; MoDOT approves funds - CedarRepublican.com: News

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

The last sidewalk project installed a concrete walkway along U.S. 54 from about Fugate Motors to Main Street and created a median crosswalk at U.S. 54 and Main Street.

This project will build a sidewalk from the city’s school campus on Park Street to Joe Davis Street and down to U.S. 54. A crosswalk will be painted at the Park and highway intersection with the sidewalk continuing south on Park down to Hospital Road. Then a stretch of sidewalk will be built east from Hospital Road to Mo. 32.

“The project has multiple focus points. The first, children need safe roads to reach school and activities. Park Street is a narrow corridor forcing school children to walk in close proximity to a high volume of traffic. Providing safe opportunities for walking to and from school and activities is a key strategy to keep kids protected, active and healthy,” Jackson Tough, chamber executive director, said. “Resources such as sidewalks also can be a lifeline, especially for older adults and people with disabilities. Creating safe sidewalk options for El Dorado Springs’ residents builds a more livable, accessible community for people of all ages, abilities and income levels.”

Tough also sees community and economic growth from the project.
