Union, MO, moving forward with sidewalk projects | emissourian.com

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

The Union School Board unanimously approved donating land to the city for sidewalk easements and right of way on Clark and West State streets. . . .

The city’s plans call for 8-foot sidewalks on Clark Avenue, and 6-foot sidewalks on the north side of State Street from Clark Avenue to Westmoreland Avenue. Sidewalks will be installed on the east side of Clark Street to be used by children who are dropped off at Clark-Vitt.

MoBikeFed comment: Basic sidewalk connections like these are missing in so many Missouri communities. Union is one of dozens of Missouri communities that are now moving systematically to address these gaps in the sidewalk system.

Several years ago, MoDOT worked with communities all across Missouri to systematically identify sidewalk gaps and repairs needed. These local sidewalk assessments have focused needed attention and funding on local sidewalk priorities, like those in Union.
