Columbia’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission wants the Missouri Department of Transportation to restripe roads near two new roundabouts.

Elke Boyd, a commission member who specializes in street construction and maintenance, said restriping the outer lanes of the roundabouts at Range Line Street and Interstate 70 and at Business Loop 70 and I-70 would make travel through the roundabouts safer for bicyclists and motorists.

“Both of those bridges don’t provide a safe way for bicycles to pass through,” Boyd said.

The “dogbone” interchange at Range Line and the roundabout on Business Loop 70 were part of a larger MoDOT project completed last year that replaced I-70 bridges over Garth Avenue, Range Line Street and Business Loop 70. The project cost $18 million.
