Bob Dempster of the St. Joseph Metropolitan Planning Organization said more funding is needed to help the city with its mass transit needs. Safe areas are needed to help riders board and descend from the buses, he said.

There’s also interest in expanding St. Joseph’s trail opportunities, such as linking with the Katy Trail and connecting with Kansas City’s system.

“It helps with our public image,” Dempster said. . ..

"Lettered routes that are heavily used by agriculture need repairs also, he said.

“There’s crumbling on the shoulders, and there’s lack of shoulders at times,” Hook said. “These are issues that need to be at the forefront of the commission.”

MoBikeFed comment: Now that the Katy/Rock Island Trail system is in the process of being connected to Kansas City, there is increasing interest in making then next logical link in the multi-state trail system by extending it north from Kansas City to St. Joseph.

From St. Joseph, there are a few logical ways to link the trail system north to Omaha.
