City of New Melle adds sidewalks to key roads | Boone Country Connection

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

The City of New Melle was approved for a Federal cost-sharing grant to build a sidewalk from Daniel Boone School to Nicole Park. . . .

The sidewalk will follow the north side of Hwy. D starting at the Daniel Boone School Parking lot and proceed east to Hwy. Z. From there, the sidewalk will follow the west side of Z and attach to the sidewalk in front of the St. Charles County Ambulance Station. At the north entrance of New Melle Sports and Recreation, the sidewalk will cross over and follow the east side of Hwy. Z to Nicole Park.

There will be an additional crosswalk at the south entrance to the New Melle Sports and Recreation and both of the crosswalks will have signaled traffic control lights.

MoBikeFed comment: It is becoming more common for communities in rural Missouri to add sidewalks to the MoDOT roads that pass through town, particularly after MoDOT worked with small towns statewide to identify and prioritize sidewalk needs.

The new sidewalks on two state highways passing through New Melle are just one example of a very positive statewide trend.
