The trail will extend about 2 miles east of the area of Mercy Park. It will connect the areas around Freeman Hospital West, the KCU's medical school's Joplin campus and Irving Elementary School to Main Street. . . .

As part of its master plan, the city could eventually extend the trail to link it with the Tin Cup Trail south of Freeman Hospital West.

The trail will be built next year through 2019 and be paved. It will vary from 8 feet to 10 feet wide.
