Spirit Trail Coalition to focus on final portion of trail through Knob Noster State Park to Whiteman AFB | dailystarjournal.com

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

The Spirit Trail Coalition agreed Tuesday that it needs to push for completion of the trail through Knob Noster State Park before taking on expansion to the west.

The Spirit Trail, when completed, will stretch from the Lake Ridge subdivision on Route DD through the state park to Whiteman Air Force Base.

The coalition has received Missouri Department of Transportation grants to help pay the cost of the trail to the park boundary, but the Missouri State Parks Division of the Department of Natural Resources is responsible for completing the trail through the park.

Design work is complete, but the state has not provided construction funds.

State Park Superintendent Daniel Brigman said the extension of the trail to the park boundary “has been an eye-opener in Jefferson City.”

MoBikeFed comment: The Spirit Trail Coalition has done amazing work planning and funding the Spirit Trail, which will connect Warrensburg to Whiteman Air Force Base by way of Knob Noster State Park.

Now it is time for the state to step up and complete its part of the trail--either by funding it or by accepting outside funding to allow construction of the trail through the state park.

Groundbreaking for the Spirit Trail was earlier this year. The remainder of the trail, except of the portion through Knob Noster State Park, is funded and construction underway.
